The arboretum provides seasonal interest all year round, from blossom and bluebells in the spring to the vivid golden colours of autumn. We celebrate the changing seasons with a host of events including an exciting line-up of trails and workshops.
Witness one of the finest and most extensive collections of naturalised daffodils in the North of England, including some old and unusual varieties. This is then followed by carpets of bluebells and clouds of fragrant blossom. For families young and old, we have our Easter Trail throughout the school holidays.
Summer sees a riot of colour and an abundance of wildlife. Our wildflower meadow encourages a plethora of bugs and beasties, and our National Collection of Lime trees create lush avenues of green. We celebrate the warmer months with family fun days, concert events and a fun children’s trail throughout the summer school holidays.
Showstopping autumn colours take over the arboretum. We celebrate this stunning season with guided tours led by our volunteers, and fungus forays which offer a fascinating insight into the world of fungi in the Arboretum. The ghosts and ghoulies awaken ready to star in our spooktacular Hallowe’en trail guaranteed to tingle the spines of the young and old alike..
White frosty morning, coloured bark and crisp woodland walks make this a truly magical time of year at Thorp Perrow, especially when snow transforms the Arboretum into a Winter wonderland. The magical woodland bursts into life as Santa and his helpers arrive in time for Christmas, welcoming scores of excited children to his grotto. Late winter brings the arrival of snowdrops and carpets of crocus.
